Scrubbing Copper Pots and Other Little Things that Make Me Feel Happy.
The Sunday Pause 06/01/25.
Every Sunday, I publish a little list of things that I’m working on, learning about, or playing with. I’ve categorized my shares under Nourishment, Movement, Inspiration, Rhythm, Replenishment, and Introspection. Below are some of the things that have been inspiring me this week. I hope they bring a little bit of light to you today.
Nourishment
This week I watched the Alice Waters Home Cooking Masterclass and was totally inspired. It was really a perfect time to learn about making refreshing garden salads, simple vinaigrettes, pickled vegetables and other herbaceous sauces because my Spring garden is unfurling and the radishes and baby lettuces are ready for harvesting.
Movement
This week was really mentally challenging. I came down with a bad virus Tuesday and couldn’t work-out the rest of the week as a result. I had a mild fever, body aches and congestion… until Friday. Yesterday, despite still not feeling 100% I tried for a light upper body work-out: pull-ups, chest press, shoulders, triceps… Well, I paid the price. My fever returned, my HRV plummeted and my heart rate elevated. I likely set my recovery back a day or two. This is a lesson I’ll likely have to learn repeatedly before I begin to trust and accept that missing a whole week of weight training isn’t the end of the world. I have a tendency to push myself when I really should rest.
Inspiration
I was intrigued by this podcast episode and can’t wait to settle into this one tomorrow. I watched the Alice Waters Masterclass. I found this article from Danica Boyce really thought-provoking. She always hits the nail on the head and embraces the nuance that many others avoid. I was inspired to clean our copper pots this weekend (did I mention I don’t know how to relax?). Oh my goodness it is satisfying when they go from black to a sparkling rosy copper.
Rhythm
We’re in the last two weeks of the school year so I’m planning for graduation (middle school!), supporting another teen through exams, attending end-of-year events and beginning to prepare and pack for our trip to Italy in 3 weeks!
Replenishment
A little list of what’s been helping me this week: Lemon thyme tea (2-3 sprigs of lemon thyme steeped in hot water), nettle + lemonbalm infusions, Living Libations Camphorous Balm, bone broth with poached eggs and lots of kimchi for my sinuses and lights out before 9 almost every night.
Introspection
I’ve been playing with tarot this week, journaling and feeling into the kind of energy I want to keep channelling and harnessing as we journey though the summer season. I’ve pulled The World card three times in a few days. If there are any tarot aficionados reading this hit reply and tell me what it means!
Wishing you a wonderful week. I plan on writing Nourish + Thrive Summer over the next few days. Make sure you’re subscribed if you want a copy when it comes out!
